The Educational Leadership Preparation Program Equity Audit

Abstract

This paper proposes a practical equity audit for educational leadership preparation programs. To develop the audit, I analyzed six strands of literature. The audit includes eight key features: 1) program theory and vision about social justice, 2) program structure, 3) program culture, 4) student recruitment, selection, and support, 5) faculty recruitment, hiring, development, and support, 6) knowledge, content, and assessments 7) practicum and coaching, and 8) program evaluation. The knowledge and content domain addresses a focus on equity; align staff and students for inclusive practices; transform teaching and learning; and leverage policy and resources. I also discuss the most effective way to implement the equity audit process and how to use the process to drive equity change within the program.
