An experiment investigates the effects of strategy training on working memory (WM) and math performance in children (ages 7-11). Children were randomly assigned to either a control group or one of two WM training conditions (repeated-practice only or cued-practice). In general, children with relatively low fluid intelligence, benefited from WM training; whereas children with relatively high fluid intelligence did not. The results suggest that treatment outcomes related to working memory training were moderated by fluid intelligence.
