A great deal of attention has been paid to the immediate in-school climate of LGBTQ students and faculty. With increased inclusivity initiatives and anti-bullying interventions across school systems, is the field of educational research also paying increased attention to non-normative K-12 populations?
To answer this question, our presentation will address the visibility, or lack thereof, of queer research topics in education fields using data derived from a content analysis of four, high-impact factor education journals. Our research questions include: a) How often do educational journals publish studies on LGBTQ populations? b) How might this frequency/infrequency affect future recruitment and retention of educators? c) How does this frequency/infrequency of research shape the broad field of education?
