Prior work has attended to the facilitation of professional development, identifying facilitation practices, and moves within those practices. We investigate facilitation of animated vignettes and classroom videos in a study group. We ask: (1) What practices (and moves within those practices) do the facilitators enact during high-quality conversations and specific to the professional development activities? (2) How do these practices change over time? We found that approximately half of the facilitators’ moves were aimed sustaining an inquiry stance. We also found a new category of moves regarding the facilitators’ responsibility for pacing the session activities, including deciding when to review video-clips. Our findings are relevant for designing professional development that supports teacher inquiry and collaboration, and, specifically, for preparing facilitators.
