This study discusses the importance of building service-learning relationships. The goals of the service-learning experience were to expose pre-service teachers to diverse populations, support connections to social justice, and to have a positive impact on the community. The development of the project over the two years is described through the lenses of the three participant groups: pre-service teachers, instructor, and the early childhood program directors. As would be expected, there were challenges in forming relationships among each group while implementing the service-learning experience. However, through reflection and communication across the three groups, the experience developed positively over time.
