Examining Challenges for Underrepresented Minority (URM) Postdoc Into the Professoriate in STEM Disciplines

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to better understand challenges underrepresented minority (URM) students face in STEM fields as they transition into the professoriate. Specifically, this study examined URM post doctoral students’ experiences in STEM and the challenges they anticipated as they enter into academia. We conducted in-depth interviews with URM postdocs and identified challenges they face as under-represented minorities in STEM fields.
