Using Teaching Videos to Integrate the Danielson Framework for Teaching Into Secondary Certification Programs

Sat, April 9, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

This session will present an investigation using teaching videos as a model to evaluate secondary certification candidates’ adoption of the Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching (2013) during pre-student teaching practicum experiences. The teaching videos were used as a tool to heighten teacher candidates’ ability to notice Danielson’s instruction techniques. The findings compare teacher candidates’ ratings of instruction viewed on teaching videos and the teacher candidates’ own instructional performance. According to ANOVA analysis, the teacher candidates’ ratings of the teaching video were significantly higher than the teacher candidates’ observation ratings. The analysis also suggests that there is some correlation between the teacher candidates’ ratings of the teaching video and their own observation scores measured on the Danielson rubric.
