Narrowing the Gap: Examining Achievement Gaps in Indiana TAP Schools

Abstract

We examined the impact of TAP™: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement on Black-White and Hispanic-White achievement gaps in Indiana schools. Indiana TAP schools have narrowed the Black-White gap in ELA and Hispanic-White gap in ELA and math more than other Indiana schools have. TAP schools have also closed the achievement gap more than a set of propensity score matched controls; while achievement gaps at the TAP schools narrowed, most gaps at the matched schools widened. These results support the theory of action of the TAP System for raising the performance of all educators and the achievement levels of all students.
