Mon, April 11, 11:45am to 1:15pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section C

Abstract

This paper examines the crucial role of doctoral advising with particular reference to cross-cultural situations. The paper comes from a larger study which examined the expectations and experiences of postgraduate students in a cross-cultural setting. In examining the roles of expectation and their clarification, using research related to Indonesian postgraduate candidates undertaking their postgraduate studies in Australia, I address issues such as: What role does power distance play, and the related expectations, in the doctoral advising relationship?
