Abstract

The purpose of this mixed methods study is to use data based on assignments and course reflection (pre-post surveys) and course reflections of 124 elementary (n=25) and secondary (n= 99) preservice teachers who successfully completed a 3-credit family engagement course designed to help preservice teachers look more closely at the PTA standards as they move into the classroom in the near future and consider these questions: Which standards outlined by PTA standards are within the responsibilities of newly graduated K-12 teachers; which standards outlined by PTA standards are beyond the scope of the responsibilities of classroom teachers? For these standards, who should have the responsibility of fulfilling their criteria?
