Participatory, Interdisciplinary Professional Development for Curricular Integration, Inclusion, and Authentic Assessment (PIPD)

Sat, April 9, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Room 102 B

Abstract

Knowledge is constructed through interactions and the use of cultural tools with the goal of applying and expanding such knowledge (Vygotsky, 1978). Our approach to professional development is to support teaching across subjects and to enhance collaboration between K-12 schools and the community, so that children can develop meaningful understandings of subject matter through multiple modalities. The Technological, Pedagogical, Content Knowledge (TPCK) framework informs the design of interdisciplinary curricula and authentic assessments that emphasize creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaboration. Evaluation of learning includes formative and summative assessments.
