Channels of Exchange: An Exploratory Study of People's Republic of China Students in Taiwan Universities

Sun, April 10, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

This presentation details an exploratory study of the characteristics and motivations of PRC students studying in Taiwan universities; a survey questionnaire was administered to 810 PRC study abroad students in Taiwan universities. The most significant aspects of this research are encouraging for study abroad educators in terms of project design, activities, and assignments to harness a complex view of culture, identity and locality and to recognize the pedagogical value of the transnational experience for both PRC and local Taiwan students. As such PRC study abroad participants along with faculty and students in Taiwan universities have an opportunity to play a role in reshaping future exchanges as well as transforming themselves into stewards of a trans-Pacific community.
