Dewey in Germany: Traces and Horizons

Fri, April 8, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section A

Abstract

The proposed paper examines Dewey's reception in Germany over the course of 100 years and aims at pointing out differences and similarities between German and North American discourse on education. The paper argues that despite differences in philosophical foundations of educational concepts, German and American discourse can be linked through some of Dewey's key concepts (reflective experience, experience as growth, democracy).
