Undocumented Latinos in a Historically Black College/University: A Qualitative Examination of College Choice

Fri, April 8, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section C

Abstract

The qualitative study explored the college choice process of eight undocumented Latino students who enrolled in an HBCU in Texas. Through one-on-one interviews, the students shared the experiences and individuals who were instrumental to their enrollment in an HBCU. Using ganas, or the desire to succeed, as the conceptual framework offered insight into the students’ resiliency and determination.
