This paper looks at the emergence and development of the Fossil Fuel Divestment campaign in the United States and Canada. We look specifically at how campus-based campaigns have extended the original divestment campaign frames in order to integrate climate justice into their organizing. We look at how students engaged in the campaign have developed a climate justice analysis that brings intersectional anti-colonial, feminist, and anti-racist lenses to the climate movement. We argue that the Fossil Fuel Divestment campaign is significant within the context of contemporary youth activism as it works simultaneously to interrupt the carbon economy and reframe climate change as an intersectional justice issue.
