The adoption of technology within instruction by higher education faculty is not widespread. This paper reports on how taking on the role of technology leaders influenced faculty’s knowledge of how to teach with technology. Four Education faculty (supported by two faculty researchers) took on the role of technology leaders by facilitating workshops for other faculty members and serving as technology mentors. Through a collaborative action research design, qualitative data collected were pre/post interviews, videotaped workshop presentations, workshop artifacts, and reflective stories. Main findings indicated that taking on leadership roles as technology workshop facilitators: 1) deepened understandings of how to use tools more effectively in instruction, and 2) was perceived as important for promoting faculty capacity for engaging in technology-enhanced instruction.
