The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among job/position fit, satisfaction, and 5-year retention. We used a non-experimental, explanatory, retrospective, quantitative design and analyzed survey data using structural equation modeling (SEM). Through the analysis of the measurement model and subsequent SEMs, we concluded that satisfaction served as a partial mediator to the relationship between fit and retention. Additionally, we concluded that 5-year retention at the campus and in the profession is largely unexplained by job and position fit and satisfaction with 6.5% and 3.3% of the variance explained, respectively. However, the percent of variance explained in satisfaction with the profession and satisfaction with the campus was 26.0 % and 53.6%, respectively.
