In online learning, interaction is considered an important factor which influences learning outcome and student achievement. Few researchers have attempted to derive a valid and reliable measure of student interaction in online learning, thus measuring student interaction continues to be challenging. In this study, measures of student interaction in online instruction were constructed and validated using exploratory factor analysis. Three distinct and reliable dimensions of student interaction emerged: Learner-Instructor, Learner-Learner, and Learner-Content. Evidence of the convergent and discriminant validity is reported.
