This study explored whether the findings on the neurodynamics of insight reported previously in the cognitive neuroscience literature would be confirmed in the context of a messier, authentic problem-solving task. Our results are tentative; however, they align with the data reported in prior cognitive neuroscience research. Alpha event-related desynchronization in the right frontal cortex was significantly higher for the participants in the epistemic script condition, who outperformed the social script condition on the problem-solving task. This difference was especially pronounced 10 seconds before verbalizing insight. We are hopeful that research on the individual and team neurodynamics of learning can provide additional insights on the efficacy of instructional interventions such as the epistemic and social scaffolding conditions explored in this study.
