British Columbia School Trustees' Use of Research and Information Seeking in Decision Making

Abstract

This study examines the information seeking activities of BC school trustees in an effort to strengthen transmission of research. Trustees will be asked to identify the sources they use for acquiring research and information in the process of decision-making. The frequency of use and the characteristics of the information source will be examined as will the influence of demographic and district variables. The survey, based on a survey used in the United States (Earley & Galluzzo, forth coming), was selected to gather data in BC for three reasons: to efficiently gather information in the BC context; to strengthen findings by examining outcomes in light of differing research, professional, and cultural contexts; and to further validate the original instrument.
