Student Satisfaction in an Undergraduate International Business English-Medium Instruction Program: A Case in Southern Taiwan

Tue, April 12, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Room 142

Abstract

Increasing numbers of higher education institutions worldwide, striving to internationalize their campuses, have made greater efforts in recruiting international students. Taiwanese universities are no exception. To increase competitive edge and promote on-campus cross-cultural experience, English-medium instruction (EMI) has burgeoned within Taiwan’s predominantly Chinese-speaking universities, and a small number of EMI international colleges and/or international programs have been established. Compared with American and British universities, these English-taught programs provide a relatively affordable alternative that appeals both to local and international students seeking immersion in an English-only environment. This study examined a newly-established undergraduate international business EMI program in Southern Taiwan and assessed both local and international students’ satisfaction on dimensions that may foster or deter their learning experience in the program.
