This paper discusses the ways that individuals with disabilities, family members of children with disabilities, and professionals in the field were integrated into a Masters level education course on Partnerships with Families of Children with Disabilities. It will also describe a study designed to access a diverse group of guest speakers’ insights into their experience.
The mutually beneficial partnership between higher education and individuals from both public and private sectors that was enacted created a form of public scholarship. The roles of teachers and learners became fluid as preservice teachers, teacher educators, individuals with disabilities, family members of children with disabilities, and professionals came together to share their perspectives with the hope of impacting education in positive ways.
