This study explored the experiences of three elementary school teachers in one grade level as they implemented the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English language arts (National Governors Association Center for Best Practices & Council of Chief State School Officers, 2010). Through the use of observations, interviews, and reflective journals we documented the stories of the three elementary school teachers’ journeys as they grappled with the challenges presented in implementing these standards. This study provided a voice for the elementary school teachers as they contended with implementation, time constraints, and cotent mastery of the content standards (Loertscher & Marcoux, 2010; Phillips & Wong, 2010; Soares & Wood, 2010; Tye, et al., 2010; Vogler & Virtue, 2007).
