Computerized Adaptive Testing for Ipsative Tests With Multidimensional Forced-Choice Items

Fri, April 8, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Three, Ballroom A

Abstract

To facilitate applications of ipsative tests, which are popular in the assessment of personality and career interest, this study aimed to develop computerized adaptive testing (CAT) algorithms, including item selection method and within-person statement exposure control procedures for dichotomous and polytomous multidimensional forced-choice (MFC) items. Two control procedures were proposed. A series of simulation studies were conducted to evaluate the performance of the new CAT algorithms. It was found the proposed procedures were successful and there was no loss in measurement proficiency. The progressive statement exposure control method seemed to outperform the simple control method. Directions of future study are provided.
