The first objective of this study is to examine the effect of culture on the transmission of educational values between Asian and European parents and children. The second objective is to determine how these values are transmitted. Data are organized into four parent-child dyads (N=1,922). The basic premise is that parents put in greater efforts to socializing the child of the same sex (mother-daughter, father-son) than they do for the child of the opposite sex (mother-son, father-daughter). The European dyads support this proposition; the Asians do not. Instead, parents’ bias for males overwhelmed the results. We also found that parental involvement dimensions facilitated the transmission of educational values with expectations having the biggest effect.
