Burnout and Stress Prevention Among Internship Students in the United States and Germany

Sat, April 9, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

Factors related to burnout symptoms during the student teaching or internship experience were examined to explore which of them are most predictive of lower burnout. Samples of student teachers in the U.S. and Germany (n = 331) were examined along with a sample of Social Work Interns from Germany. For students in the preparation for high-risk-professions the three facts of burnout were related to positive professional preparation, self-acceptance and overall happiness. Younger students were also found to be at comparably higher risk for certain facets of burnout like depersonalization and emotional exhaustion.
