This paper explores the affordances of a multimedia video annotation tool and video repository for the development of pre-service teachers’ professional vision—the ability to notice key features in a learning environment, interpret them, and respond. In this exploratory study, 27 undergraduate participants created a multimedia artifact, in which they applied theory to practice by identifying and explaining the teaching and learning activities within an authentic classroom video. They then discussed their multimedia artifact with their peers, and revised it according to the feedback they received. Our results suggest that the production of a multimedia video analytic is a fruitful context for pre-service teachers to explore the nuances of learning theory.
