Tue, April 12, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Three, Ballroom A

Abstract

This paper presents a secondary analysis of data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s 2013 Teaching and Learning International Survey with a focus on the relationships among teacher and principal perceptions of distributed leadership and teachers’ work and professional satisfaction in Singapore. Hierarchical Linear Modeling is applied to investigate teacher commitment and retention in Singapore with principal perceptions of distributed leadership as a school-level (level-2) variable and teacher perceptions of distributed leadership as a level-1 variable. Results indicate that both principal and teacher perceptions of distributed leadership had a significant influence on teachers’ work and professional satisfaction, but the influence was stronger for teacher perceptions; higher distributed leadership scores were associated with higher work and professional satisfaction scores.
