Students with high incidence (HI) disabilities spend an increasingly large percentage of time in general education classrooms. Secondary inclusion teachers report that instructional accommodations ensure curricular access for these learners, and they are willing to support students in actively learning to use accommodations. A mixed-methods comparative case study methodology was used to track the progress of three students with HI disabilities who were taught an experimental strategy for learning and utilizing accommodations in inclusive classrooms. Results indicate that all three students increased their accommodations knowledge and proactive thinking and learned to utilize the strategy on individual trajectories. Implications for the relationship between strategy comprehension and use will be discussed.
