History and Influence of the National Council on Measurement in Education

Abstract

Created in 1938 as the National Association of Teachers of Educational Measurements The name was changed to National Council on Measurements Used in Education (NCMUE) in 1940 and then changed again in 1960 to the National Council on Measurement in Education. Over the last 78 years NCME has had a major impact on assessment in education with educational assessment being its major focus. This presentation will summarize NCME’s history and its major contributions to the field on educational measurement.
