History and Impact of the International Test Commission

Abstract

The International Test Commission has a much shorter history than the other associations represented in this symposium. It was founded around 1974 as a result of various perceived needs primarily related to psychological assessments. The ITC goals include promotion of sound testing practices and development and use of effective psychological and educational measures. Unlike the other associations, however, it focus is clearly international. It’s most important impact has probably come by reforming how measures are adapted for use in other countries, and has suggested that the previous translation techniques with which tests were taken to new countries and cultures were lacking in significant ways. This presentation will summarize ITC’s history and its contributions to the field on testing and assessment.
