This study compared the effectiveness of two interventions (i.e., self-affirmation and role model guest lecture) on reducing students’ perceptions of identity threat. Results from an ANCOVA analysis found a significant effect of intervention on perceptions of identity threat, and planned contrast found statistically significant differences in perceptions of identity threat between students that received both interventions and no intervention, and between students that received both interventions and self-affirmation task alone. Additionally, mediation analysis found an effect of both interventions on sense of school belonging as mediated by perceptions of identity threat. Our research suggests that practitioners should consider using multiple interventions in order to reduce perceptions of identity threat.
