Pre-service teachers’ beliefs about the teaching profession play a critical role in the quality of teacher preparation. Limited studies have been conducted to understand how pre-service physical education teachers perceive their teaching profession. This study aimed to establish a measurement scale to answer this question. Originally, a 19-item survey using a 7-point Likert scale was developed and examined by experts in physical education. It was then distributed to 696 pre-service physical education teachers in China. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis revealed a 2-factor 12-item model (i.e., sense of calling and importance of physical education) with a good model fit. Cronbach’s alpha indicated acceptable reliability of the scale. Revalidation of the survey using different samples is needed in future.
