The present study are to: (a) examine impact of the Silverman and Solmon paper on field-based intervention research in PE; (b) summarize statistical approaches used to analyze field-based data, and (c) provide recommendations for future field-based intervention research and statistical analysis. We analyzed 44 field-based intervention research articles published in JTPE and RQES from 1998 to 2014. Findings documented the significant impact of the Silverman and Solmon paper on field-based intervention research in PE. Various statistical modeling and analysis approaches were found to analyze the field-based data. However, the nesting structure was ignored in the statistical modeling, leading to inappropriate use of error term and degree of freedom. Recommendations for future field-based intervention research and statistical analysis approaches are discussed.
