Undergraduate STEM education reform continues to be a national priority. We studied a reform process in undergraduate biology at a research-intensive university to address how the change strategies employed in the leadership of the initiative promoted or hindered reform. The data was drawn from transcripts of meetings that occurred over the first two years of the reform process. Two literature-based models of change were used as lenses through which to view the data. We report on how particular change strategies contributed to the implementation of the initiative as well as evaluate and extend the two models of change.
