Two-Year For-Profit College Ownership Variability in Ohio: A Study of Student and Community Characteristics

Mon, April 11, 10:00 to 11:30am, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

This study examines the two-year, Title IV-eligible for-profit college (FPC) sector in Ohio relative to ownership dimensions and the students and communities they serve. This study analyzes the number of campuses operated by two-year FPCs in Ohio in relation to their 1) student body 2) community and 3) county demographics in which they have locations. Findings indicate that FPCs with more campuses have stronger ties to federal funding while FPCs with fewer campuses were linked to their local communities. The authors argue that researching these variances within the FPC sector allows for a more rigorous understanding of these institutions and the students who enroll in them.
