Existing literature provides partial answers regarding the many factors that affect sample size requirements in latent variable modeling. However, options are limited for the novice researcher assessing the feasibility of latent variable modeling given constraints based on population size, anticipated response rate, or budget for data collection. This study developed more specific minimum sample size estimates that simultaneously meet six criteria for a class of confirmatory factor analysis models. Findings were summarized in a base model that may be used to identify feasible minimum sample size without the use of latent variable modeling software. The impact of this study is to aid in setting realistic parameters on study design while considering multiple criteria.
