America’s public school system continues to struggle with effective recruitment and retention of teachers. When it comes to recruitment, no group poses a greater challenge than African American males. This is especially true within special education. The presenters will provide information on the trends in bachelor degree attainment for Black males in education comparable to special education. This study focuses on providing data on the institutions that are producing the highest number of degree or credential recipients in special education. The presenters compare the numbers of degree recipients in general and special education compared to the numbers of students in special education programs segmented by race.
