This qualitative field methods investigation examines governance at two British Columbia institutions and one institution in Alberta to capture understandings of sectoral change from the perspective of faculty and administrators, with particular focus on changes in governance. Findings show that changes in governance entail faculty and administrators’ redefinition of faculty roles and responsibilities, and that in the sites where policy responded to economic needs, policy did not match university values or members’ understandings of the purpose of their institutions. The authors consider the influence of governance changes at the campus level and offer implications for other institutions that make the unicameral to bicameral change.
