Multilevel Analysis of the Relationship Between Postsecondary Enrollment and High School Scheduling

Abstract

The US Department of Education lists increasing college degree attainment as the top priority of the department for 2014-2015. An examination of whether students receive the necessary preparation for postsecondary enrollment from their school is the focus of this study.The type of schedule implemented by administrators may influence postsecondary enrollment by limiting the amount of time students are present in the classroom therefore not giving those students the extra interaction with a teacher that could create greater academic progress. The purpose of this study is to affirm or disconfirm those studies from a national perspective to answer: At a national level, is there a relationship between postsecondary enrollment and the implementation of schedule structure by the school principal?
