Evaluation as Case Study: Building a Transatlantic University Partnership Around Quality Assurance

Abstract

Much has been written about the positive effects of institutions from different countries collaborating on curricular issues, distance learning, and faculty and student exchanges. However, quality assurance processes in higher education are a critical area that could be enhanced through international collaborations. The purpose of this paper is to examine a recent evaluation of quality processes at one university in Sweden conducted by staff at a university in the U. S. a case study for how international collaborations can be effective. This type of well-defined project, designed collaboratively between the institutions, provided a practical space where discussions from two country perspectives informed the practice of both. Implications for cross-cultural research as well as the development of international collaborations are drawn.
