After the Atlanta Cheating Scandal: Implications for Teacher Preparation in a High-Stakes World

Abstract

Due to the vast public investigation, the APS cheating scandal provides a unique opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding about school accountability practices, particularly as they pertain to the education of students with disabilities. Using court records, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) report, newspaper articles, and previous analyses focused on the cheating scandal in the Atlanta Public Schools to explore our guiding research question: what are the implications of the cheating scandal in Atlanta for policy, practice, and future research as it pertains to teacher preparation to work with students with disabilities?
