Evaluating Google Tools for the Delivery of Formal Online Learning

Sat, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

This is a report of an evaluation of the use of Google Sites and Google+ in place of several LMS components for an online graduate-level Education course. The purpose of this evaluation was to determine student perceptions of using Google+ and Google Sites tools for an online learning experience. Participants offer their perceptions on the Google+/Google Sites platform both independently, and in comparison to using a traditional LMS for course management. Data was gathered over multiple offerings of the same course with anonymous questionnaires and institutional, end-of-course evaluations. Factors evaluated in this study include: ease of tool use, ability to communicate with peers or the instructor, time needed to become acclimated, and if students enjoyed using the platform.
