In the present study we wanted to examine the effect of a textbook revision, including better coherence and an explicit voice, on students’ comprehension of history texts without increasing the length of the revised text compared to the original version. The participants were 217 Norwegian sixth-graders randomly assigned to an experimental group (revised text) and a control group (original version). The results show that the textbook revision had a large effect on students reading comprehension.
