"We serve the people": Non-Tenure-Track Faculty Agency at a Research University

Abstract

Full-time non-tenure-track faculty (FTNTTF) at an elite, public, research-intensive university were interviewed regarding conceptualizations of their roles and agency. FTNTTF experienced heightened power differentials but facilitated change through strategic alliances and managing scope of impact. FTNTTF contribute directly (teaching) and indirectly (research) to the university mission, warranting institutional recognition of impact.
