Feminist researchers consistently challenge methodological boundaries, through engaged and activist research. Leveraging shared research interests, a group of researchers across different disciplines and national contexts participated in a formal process of methodological exploration, aiming to build interconnecting research projects, and strengthen the knowledge and policy base in a largely-ignored area. An eight-month consultation, and formal data collection process was used to generate investment in and discussion about the proposed methodologies for future research. We found resistance to engaging in unfamiliar methodological practices, but also unexpected benefits, in terms of cooperative and deep involvement with necessary research processes within our particular interdisciplinary research interest area. We believe our collaborative process would be valuable to interdisciplinary teams in other areas.
