Mon, April 11, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

Research and attention to adverse childhood experiences has grown tremendously. Much of the population has experienced at least one such event. Elementary school provides an opportunity, as a universal system that serves the majority of children, to offer trauma informed care practices to students in an effort to improve student success. This mixed methods study will examine the influence of trauma informed care trainings, provided to all school personal throughout the fall semester, on the use of trauma informed care practices in classroom settings on the climate and culture of the school. Pre and posttest data will be discussed from the intervention and control school. Preliminary results will be presented as well as implications for school counselors, teachers, and administrators.
