Over the past decades, international students have increasingly enrolled in institutions of higher education in the U.S. In this study, international students' experiences are analyzed in
terms of difficulties faced as students and citizens living in the U.S. Some pilot data was collected through interviews to international students, non-native English speakers, in a U.S.
southern university. The preliminary findings revealed that even before being physically in America, students suffer from anguish included, meeting academic expectations, issues of
academic and social adjustment, anxiety due to English language, and uncertainty to the unknown. Consequently, international students deal with an academic and social process of adaptation, resulting in a personal and educational learning, which will contribute to transform students' personality and knowledge.
