Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students in higher education have not been a primary demographic for sexual violence prevention and response resources. This is demonstrated in the literature on campus sexual violence, where LGBTQ participants are almost nonexistent. This paper reports on the qualitative results of a mixed-methods study designed to better understand the incidence of sexual violence occurring against LGBTQ students in higher education, factors associated with their marginalization from prevention and response resources, and LGBTQ students’ own understandings of their experiences with sexual violence. The findings should provide essential information to administrators, prevention experts, and scholars investigating campus sexual violence, expanding what we know about this complex problem and how to better help multiple student communities.
