Faculty Development and Satisfaction With Online Teaching

Sat, April 9, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

Faculty professional development (PD) for online teaching is important in improving the quality of online teaching and learning. Gender and faculty perceptions of the usefulness of, and participation in, formal and informal types of PD for online teaching, and relationships with faculty satisfaction with online teaching were explored. Multiple regression was used to identify the predictors of faculty beliefs that PD increases satisfaction with online teaching. The findings indicated faculty who participated in formal PD believed it increased satisfaction with online teaching. Females found informal and formal PD more useful than males; they participated more in informal PD. Participation in formal PD, satisfaction with institutional support, and usefulness of formal PD were predictors of online teaching satisfaction.
